BRADES, Montserrat, January 21, 2013 – The Deputy Governor Alric Taylor has extended congratulations to six civil servants who are now certified Business Continuity Managers. The group participated in the EU funded Regional Risk Reduction Initiative (R3i) project, which was made available through all of the disaster offices in Overseas Territories.

The course equipped students with the tools to provide advice and support on contingency planning for the public sector, in order to reduce risk in relation to disruptive events.

The project was managed through the UNDP Barbados and Eastern Caribbean Office, and the course in Business Continuity Management was facilitated online in a collaborative venture by the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College in the British Virgin Islands, and The National Institute of Business Continuity Management in the United States.  The Disaster Management Coordination Agency was the local focal point for all components of the project.

The successful participants are: Nerissa Golden, Director of Information and Communication ; Sergeant Elva Sweeney, Sergeant Mataniah Antoine, and Constable Micah Hilton of the Royal Montserrat Police Service;  Clandine Molyneaux,  Executive Officer, Disaster Management Coordination Agency; and Billy Darroux,  Director of the Disaster Management Coordination Agency .

Each student can also now use the professional designation of certified Business Continuity Manager.
